Opelika History & Background

By revitalizing the site, the main historic chapter of the town – the first working-class residents of the town, will be preserved. This will increase the sustainability of the community. It will increase the sense of belonging in the community. Moreover, the land use application of the site will change from a private land use application to a public gathering place. Several social, educational and economic activities can take place in the revitalized site. All of these can positively impact the poor and underrepresented surrounding community. The revitalized site can attract people from further locations and will introduce the history of the town to them. The revitalized site may also attract investors and developers attention toward the surrounding community. It can be an attractive place for several businesses to gain profit. The prices of adjacent properties can increase due to the site redevelopment. The revitalized site can represent the community and lead to more social connections and activities which itself can have direct impacts on the social health and equity.
